Working RS-44 Satellite with new FT-847

First off HAPPY NEW YEAR to all readers of this Blog.

Well its been a year since my last post so I had better get my finger out.
So in Nov 2025 I acquired a Yaesu FT-847 transceiver, and thought, hey I'll give working satellites a go. Ok so I only have fixed azimuth rotatable antennas, no elevation, but I thought hey I'll give it a try.

Well once I got my laptop controlling my radio for doppler frequency control, all I had to do was turn the rotator to track the chosen Satellite.

RS-44 is a linear bird, using SSB or CW, most passes are about 15mins or so.

Well I was both suprised and pleased. I was able to contact the Satellite and call CQ.
Doppler shift was a bit hit and miss until I understood how to operate the radio.

But I started making some DX contacts into the USA all over Europe and my best DX so far French Guiana followed by Saudi Arabia
All confirmed by LOTW.

I also started using Ham2k PO-LO (Portable Logger) on my android phone.
And here is a Map image of stations worked.

And here is a copy of my QRZ logbook showing stations worked.

So there you go it is possible to work some nice dx through RS-44 using a 7 ele ZL special on 2mtrs and a 10 ele yagi on 70cms and no Pre-amps

More to come I hope.
73 and thanks for reading
